This route is for adult-dependent relatives of British citizens, those settled in the UK or with refugee leave to come to the UK Indefinitely to get care and support from the family in the UK. This route can only be applied from outside the UK.
Adult Dependent Visa Eligibility Requirements
In order to qualify for an Adult Dependent Relative visa, the applicant needs to be above 18 years old or above and satisfy the below requirements.
- Must be a dependant parent, grandparent, brother or sister, son or daughter of the sponsor living in the UK
- Requires long term personal care to do everyday household tasks such as washing, cooking, etc as a result of age or any related illness or disability
- Required care is either not available or affordable in the applicant’s home country
- Sponsoring family members will be able to adequately maintain, accommodate, support, and care for the applicant without claiming any public funds for at least 5 years
This option has a high evidentiary requirement since applicants must show that they are unable to obtain the essential care even with the sponsoring relative’s financial and practical assistance. The common consensus is that if the required care can be given by a nursing home or a housekeeper, the applicant will not be eligible. It’s also required to back up the application with evidence that the care needed isn’t available in the home nation, as well as financial evidence showing it won’t be cheap if that’s the case.
If the applicants are successful, they are usually awarded Indefinite Leave to Remain unless the sponsoring relative is a refugee or is under humanitarian protection with limited leave; in that case, the applicant will be granted limited leave to enter in accordance with the sponsoring relative.
